Sainz: “The battle with Fernando has been beautiful, he deserves the podium”
Carlos Sainz has regretted that the degradation of the tires on his Ferrari prevented him from getting on the podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix. That award has been for Fernando Alonso, whom he has congratulated for his third position in the first race of the World Championship and who has summoned more duels in the coming weeks.
Fight for the podium
“We tried everything, that’s for sure. The first stint we held up quite well, but then little by little the race took shape and in the end we ended up where we deserved, behind Fernando’s Aston Martin that we had already seen since the tests that were going to make things very complicated for us. In the end, that’s how it was.”
The degradation of Ferrari
«It is clear that this circuit was not our forte due to the degradation it has. We knew since last year that degradation is a pending issue that we have and it gave us very little room to fight. When I have fought with Fernando I have loaded the wheels. Then more or less I was able to recover them to keep Hamilton behind. It is a subject that we will try to improve throughout the year.”
The duel with Alonso
«Obviously I have always respected Fernando and I think it has been a tough battle, but a beautiful one fighting for a podium, which in the end he and Aston Martin deserve for the work they have done. Congratulations and in the next races we will try to do better,” Sainz said in a statement to DAZN.
