Modric, summoned by Croatia, insists that he wants to play the two qualifying matches for the Eurocup
Luka Modric (37 years old) has been called up for the two games that the Croatian national team will play in this upcoming match against Wales and Turkey, qualifying for Euro 2024. The Real Madrid midfielder has been cited by Zlatko Dalic in a list on The one that does not include the Osasuna striker Ante Budimir.
According to the Croatian newspaper Sportske novosti, the coach would have proposed that Modric play alone in the first match of the European qualifiers, on March 25 against Wales, and then return to Madrid, but the midfielder, who will turn 38 in September, insisted to also play against Turkey, three days later.
The captain and soul of the Croatian team has in mind reaching the next European Championship and that is why he has insisted on playing the two games, knowing that they are valid to obtain the classification of said tournament that will be held in Germany between June and July of the year that comes.
The Croatian outlet considers that those in check can expect Modric to participate in Euro 2024 and explains that he must be considered “a supreme player and not a veteran who by a miracle still resists the years.” Dalic published today a first list of the Croatian team for the Eurocup qualifying phase, which in addition to Modric also includes many other players from the last World Cup. “We don’t have to change the team that won the bronze medal at the World Championship a few months ago, so there are 23 Qatari players on the list,” he said.
