AEMET advances the weather that will be at Easter
The AEMET spokesman, Rubén del Campo, explained that “it will not be a very rainy week”, although he insisted that there is still a long way to go to launch an accurate forecast.
Nine days until Palm Sunday arrives and with it, Easter 2023 can begin. This is one of the most anticipated moments of the year by thousands of citizens who will take to the streets to witness the processions in different country cities.
One of the main unknowns in this period of the year, as in previous periods, will be the weather. From the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) its spokesman, Rubén del Campo, made it clear that there are still many days left to give a clear forecast since, according to his version, spring is “given to give surprises in the meteorological year” .
Even so, he advanced the forecast that could be the most likely for the first week of April. “During the week of April 3 to 9 (from Holy Monday to Easter Sunday), temperatures could be above the normal average in the center and south of the Peninsula, but not very markedly. It will not be a very hot or cold week, it will be a mild environment or something warmer, normal for the time of year.
Regarding rainfall, he mentioned that you have to be “prudent” although everything seems to indicate that it will not be the main protagonist of the week. “In principle, it will not be a rainy Holy Week in most of the Peninsula.” A forecast that, if confirmed, will be a relief for all those who want to witness the most anticipated and visited processions of the year.
On the other hand, from eltiempo.es they stressed that, according to the weather of the period 1991-2020 for the selected dates, there is a reality, and that is that the rain “appears in almost 3 out of 4 years in practically all the country”. Ricardo Torrijo, another AEMET meteorologist, agrees with his colleague from Campo, assuring that “broadly speaking, the period in which Holy Week falls this year is a spring period, in which great weather changes can occur” .
weather for next week
For next week, the last week of March and the week before the start of Holy Week, rainfall is expected in the northwest and northern third of the peninsula, with generally “stable” weather in the rest of the country. No precipitation is expected except in the areas mentioned above, and a mild environment is expected for this Saturday with 5/10ºC higher than the average for the period in the east and south of the peninsula.
Looking ahead to Monday the 27th, daytime temperatures will drop in the Mediterranean area as the northwesterly winds stop blowing, and the situation in terms of fire risk will ease. In the middle of the week, the daytime is expected to exceed the annual average for the season in the Guadalquivir valley. A situation that can be maintained until Friday. In Madrid, for example, maximum temperatures between 24 and 27ºC are expected for the last days of March.
